Have you ever struggled coming up with card ideas, May I suggest you use card sketches.
Sketches are an easy way to come up with card ideas. All you need to do is pick a sketch and a set of products and then start playing with them. It seems like the creative process begins to flow with ease. I use card sketches to use my precious Designer Series Paper and to encourage other cardmakers in designing cards. Card sketches also help me design cards so much faster.
Please let me encourage you to start using sketches. You will realize that these are like maps that give you a visual idea of how the elements will work in the card. You would just need to substitute each of these elements with your crafting supplies. Which is what I will share below.
How to Use an Sketch for Card Making?
- Select an easy sketch, the less elements the better it is, as it gives you more possibilities. You can google card sketches and you will find so many sketches.
- Pick a few products you want to use from your craft space.
- Remember you can use the sketch as is or you can change things around.
- Start your card design by substituting the elements in the sketch with the products you selected. This will give you an idea of how your card is turning out.
- Don’t adhere elements at first, just position them and change them around until you are happy with the visual of your card. Then adhere.
- When you’ve finished your card, be sure to share it with others.
The sketch I used for this Saturday Sketch is:
This is sketch #93 by OWH (Operation Write Home). Te measurements are on the sketch.
Here are some of the cards I designed using this card sketch.

I used an A2 size Basic White card base, a green piece of “To Market” DSP, So Swirly Embossing Folder, another green plaid piece of “To Market” DSP, Daisies from March’s Paper Pumpkin (Daisy Daydream), a circle from Daisy Daydream, the sentiment “Celebrate from The Birthday Mix & Match Combo and some gems from my stash.
I used an A2 size Crumb Cake card base, a green stip of DSP from “To Market” Designer Series Paper, a 3″x4″ piece of Basic Black cardstock, a 2-7/8″x 3-7/8″ piece of a card base from March’s Paper Pumpkin, and ephemera from the “Hello Spring” Paper Pumpkin. The sentiment at the top right of the card is a stamp from the “Hello Spring” stamp set and the gems are from my stash.
